Lord Raj Loomba

Lord Raj Loomba, CBE

Founder & Chairman Trustee

Rajinder Paul Loomba, Baron Loomba, CBE, is a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and life peer in the House of Lords. Born in Dhilwan, Punjab, India, he witnessed first-hand the hardships his mother, Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, faced after being widowed at the age of 37. This early experience instilled in him a lifelong commitment to challenge the injustices widows endure across the world.

In 1997, he established The Loomba Foundation in her memory, with a mission to support widows and their children through education, economic empowerment, and global advocacy. His tireless campaign led to the United Nations formally recognising International Widows Day on 23 June — the anniversary of his mother’s widowhood — as a global day of observance.

Alongside his humanitarian work, Lord Loomba is the founder and Executive Chairman of the Loomba Group, a successful international clothing business with operations in the UK, India, and China. He has been honoured with numerous accolades for his services to charity, including the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), presented by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.

Ennobled as a Life Peer in 2011, Lord Loomba has used his platform in the House of Lords to advocate for human rights, gender equality, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. He continues to work passionately to ensure widows are no longer left behind in development policies, economic systems, or social inclusion.
